A native Rust engine reads file metadata in parallel. Stop at a depth or file limit, cancel a long scan at any time, and rescan any folder deeper later without starting over.

🗺️ Treemap & Folder Tree

The space map draws every folder in proportion to its size, so the biggest blocks show where the space went. The folder tree ranks each subfolder by size, file count and share of the total.

🧬 Duplicate Finder

Turn on SHA-256 and identical files are grouped by content, with how many copies exist and how much space you would get back. Reveal any copy in Explorer, or export the full list to CSV.

📊 Charts & Reports

Bar charts, 3D pies and histograms for any folder, a file-type breakdown, and the largest files. Export Excel reports with charts, PDF reports, or CSV, TSV, JSON, Mermaid, Graphviz DOT, HTML and TXT.

Q: Can eTree GUI delete or change my files?

No. eTree GUI only reads file and folder names, sizes, dates and attributes in the folder you choose to scan (and file contents when you turn on SHA-256 for duplicates). It never modifies, moves or deletes anything. When you find something to remove, Reveal in Explorer takes you straight to it.

Q: Does it work offline?

Yes. Scanning, snapshots, charts, exports and reports never use the network. The only time eTree GUI goes online is when you ask the optional AI Copilot a question using a cloud AI provider you chose yourself.

Q: Do I need an AI subscription?

No. The Copilot is optional. You can use a free local model with Ollama or LM Studio, which runs entirely on your PC, or bring your own API key for a cloud provider. eTree GUI rates each installed local model for your PC and recommends one.

Q: What is the difference between eTree and eTree GUI?

eTree is a lightweight command-line tree viewer for terminals and scripts. eTree GUI is a separate desktop app with a treemap, duplicate finder, charts, snapshots and the AI Copilot. Both share the same Rust scanning engine.

Q: What does the AI Copilot send to a cloud provider?

Only when you send a question: the question, the conversation so far and, if you tick the option, a summary of the selected folder (folder names, sizes, file counts and types, and dates; never file contents).
